Promoting a stronger ethical investment policy in the Christian Churches

Data Protection Act

The following statement sets out how CEIG, as data controller, processes the personal data of its subscribing members.

The main provisions concerning data protection are set out in the Data Protection Act 1998 and from 23 October 2001 any organisation which holds or processes personal information is subject to the full scope of the legislation.

When a member subscribes to CEIG, his or her name and address (and email address, where applicable) is placed on a membership list held in a central database, to which only the members of the Executive Committee have access. If he or she subscribed by bankers' order then those financial details required to process the order are held confidentially by the Treasurer and disclosed only to CEIG's bankers and the member's bank.

As well as tracking our subscribing membership, holding personal details enables us to notify members of CEIG meetings (including the AGM) and other events which we are either hosting or in which we are participating. Occasionally, when we write to tell members about our meetings, there may be events which are being organised by other groups concerned with ethical investment in a Christian environment which we feel we ought to bring to members' attention at the same time. That is the only way in which we will process personal details. We do not disclose personal information to third parties.

If a member wishes us to remove their details from any of our mailing lists, please follow the instructions below:

• Web members - there is an unsubscribe option in the Membership section of this web site. Once you have entered your email address in the box given, select "unsubscribe" and you will receive an email from our administrator confirming the removal of your personal details from our database.

• Subscribing members who receive postal information - please email info@ceig.org or write to Christian Ethical Investment Group, 1 St Georges Close, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND LU7 1ZX. Again, you will receive written confirmation of the removal of your personal details.

If you would like any further information about the legislation or the way in which it affects you as a member of CEIG please contact our The Treasurer, Christian Ethical Investment Group, 49 Woodchurch Close, Sidcup, Kent, DA14 6QH.
